David Hussey not happy with Kings XI Punjab’s batting performance – Cricket News Update
Kings XI Punjab’s Australian import David Hussey is not happy with his side’s batting performance so far in the ongoing season six of the lucrative Indian Premier League and has urged the players to perform well with the bat, if they are to reach the final fours.
Despite having the likes of big hitting batsmen Adam Gilchrist and David Hussey, the KXIP batting line up has lacked punch in the ongoing T20 league. In their 5-wicket defeat at the hands of debutant Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Gilchrist led Kings XI Punjab side got off to a good start but the middle order collapse saw them posting an average total of 123 for 9 from their allotted quota of 20 overs. Though the hosts also stuttered in the chase, but they managed to go past the line, courtesy Thisara Perera’s quick cameo, 23 off 11, studded with three lofty sixes.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 side has managed to get past 140-run mark just once this season – 157 for 9 against Kolkata Knight Riders – and have a lot of scope for improvement. David Hussey believes it is time for the batsmen to start taking responsibility and pot a price tag on their wickets.
"We're just not taking responsibility of our wickets. When you're four down with four overs to go, you think you'll post a big score but we keep getting out in poor ways. We've really got to learn and rectify that problem straight away, or it's going to be a very long tournament for us," http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJ-Hussey-c1380 told the official IPL website in an interview on Friday.
The Australian himself has managed to score a couple of forties in the ongoing season six of the T20 league, while Gilchrist, after a string of failures, found some form with the bat scoring 26 against Hyderabad last night. Hussey said it was time for them to convert their starts into bigger scores and give their bowlers a decent total to defend.
"No batsman from our team has yet scored a fifty and we have to change that very soon. We have the batsmen to do that. The way http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792), I thought he's going to be one of our better batsmen going forward in the tournament. We really need to get those big 50s and 70s and give our bowlers a decent total to bowl to. The bowlers have been fantastic and now it's up to the batsmen to put their hands up," Hussey said.
