David Hussey wants Michael Hussey to make a World Cup comeback
Australia’s middle order batsman David Hussey has favoured his discarded brother Michael Hussey to replace Australia’s injured medium pacer Doug Bollinger in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2011.
David while speaking on the matter said, “Of course. Mike would love to come over here and play. He's desperate to get back and play for Australia. He's back playing Shield cricket at the moment. If I was chairman of selectors I'd definitely choose Mike
first and foremost.”
Recently, Cricket Australia announced that it was in no hurry to send a replacement for Bollinger who has been sent back home after he picked up an ankle injury.
David, who is younger than Michael, felt that his brother had recovered from the hamstring injury that he picked while playing a One Day International against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in January 2011 and now was ready to come and join the team in the Subcontinent.
Mike Hussey played a major role in helping Australia defend their title in the ICC World Cup 2007 in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760.
The omission of Mike Hussey from the World Cup 2011 squad created a big controversy back in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 as many believed that he deserved to tag along the team in the Subcontinent and play in the later stages of the game after reaching full fitness. But Cricket
Australia decided not to take any chances and dropped him from the squad. However, with the omission of Bollinger, a window of opportunity has once again opened for Hussey to make a comeback.
Speaking on his fitness and prospects of his international career, Michael Hussey recently said, “I still feel like my reflexes are pretty good and I don't think they've slipped at all. In fact I probably feel like I'm playing better than what I was five
years ago.”
However, the problem for CA in picking Hussey is the fact that Australia will not have many options in the bowling department and in case any bowler gets unfit Australia would be in trouble. It is going to be a big gamble to replace a bowler (Bollinger)
with a batsman (Hussey). At the moment, veteran http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-c76390 Johnson.
Meanwhile, speaking about Australia’s next clash against favourites http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Muttiah-Muralitharan-c78157 would pose a major threat to the Aussies. He insisted that Lasith Malinga would equally be
difficult to play but said that they had good practice sessions and were ready to take on the Sri Lankans.
