David James has revealed his desire to play for England football team. The goalkeeper’s announcement came after Birmingham City shot-stopper, Ben Foster, declared his unavailability for International duty.
Foster’s indefinite break from the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 team is on the basis that the 28-year-old wants to focus on his club football so that he can prolong his career.
He said, "Inevitably every time I've had the opportunity to give my body a rest there has been an international fixture and the demands that come with that. But this is the right decision for me as I want to prolong my club career for as long as possible."
James has spent the 2010/11 season playing for Bristol City in npower Championship and now wants to grab the opportunity to wear the England shirt again. However, considering James’ age (40), England manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Capello might have reservations including
the veteran stopper in the England squad.
James said, "You work hard enough to be in a position to be called up so it would be foolish in my eyes to give away that opportunity. To play in the national stadium in any event, be it a friendly or a World Cup qualifier, would be something I'd never want
to miss out on."
At present, Manchester City’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joe-Hart-c18699 is regarded as the first choice goalkeeper for the national side but the other goalkeeping spots – second and third choice – are certainly up for grabs.
James certainly had an outstanding career; the 40-year-old has 733 league appearances (including Championship and second division) against his name while playing for Watford, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, Aston Villa, West Ham United, Manchester City, Portsmouth and Bristol
City.
There is no doubting James’ shot-stopping ability as the player has pulled off some fantastic saves in his career, however, the 40-year-old also known for his untimely and costly blunders.
At the moment, James has 53 International caps to his name and it will be interesting to see whether the player can add to his tally or not.
An opportunity for James can be England’s next Euro 2012 qualifier against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Switzerland-c3016 on June 4, 2011.
