Former Liverpool striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Johnson believes that the Reds can get their 2012/13 campaign off to a flyer by winning their first two matches against West Bromwich Albion and Manchester City, and a triumph against the latter will set the perfect
platform for their challenge to finish in the top-four.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Mancini’s title winning side to Anfield a week later.
With the Reds having introduced myriad changes in the club structure and Brendan Rodgers set to make his Premier League debut with Liverpool, the Merseyside outfit need to be at their toes right from the start, as their first two games against West Brom
and City will be followed by one against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 on 1st of September.
However, the 60-year old was not worried to see them slated alongside the top-flight teams right at the beginning, insisting that the Reds will be better off playing against City early on when they are not that settled.
He told the club’s official website, “It might be better to play those teams when we can get at them at the start of the season when they might not be as organised as when everybody's into the swing of everything in the middle of the campaign and teams have
hit form.”
The Englishman was also of the opinion that in order to launch a challenge for a Champions League berth, instead of shying away from the big fixtures the Reds should be excited about the opportunity of getting their campaign off to a good start, with wins
against the big teams.
He added, “If we're going to have any aspirations to be in the top four then we've got to get out there and beat them. It doesn't matter when we play them - that's the sort of opposition we've got to beat.”
He went on to say that it was pertinent for Liverpool to go all out and win the Europa League next season, but insisted that they should give equal importance to all the competitions.
