David Lanigan excited about Shestheman’s future prospects
Trainer David Lanigan is expecting his talented filly, Shestheman, to continue her good form and register a few more wins this season. The 3-year-old earned a lot of praise following a wonderful act on her seasonal debut last month.
Under Ted Durcan, she performed splendidly to ensure the top place in the 32Red.com Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Wolverhampton. The novice stayed prominent all the way through in the class 5 meeting.
After a solid work in the middle hours, the dashing filly changed her gears and took her speed to the maximum level. Following an outstanding job in the final stages of the race, she secured the top position by one and a half lengths.
Alan Bailey’s Fleeting Image challenged her dominance, but the filly did not let anyone spoil her party. It was a pleasing outcome for David Lanigan, who wants his trainee to be at her best for the rest of the season.
The Kathryn Stud-owned has been given entries both for the Oaks at Epsom and the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot, but Lanigan wants to go forward steadily.
Shestheman’s immediate task will be to do well in Thursday’s Bathwick Tyres British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies´ Handicap at Salisbury. The handler described that the filly needs to show her potential at Salisbury before stepping into the big event like the
Oaks.
"She's got a mark of 82 and the plan is to run her in a fillies' handicap at Salisbury on Thursday. She wants decent ground," said Lanigan.
He added: "She'll obviously have to win convincingly next time if she's going to run in something like the Oaks. It's a long year and I want to stick in handicaps at the moment as I think she's on a mark she can work off.”
Although Lanigan has no doubts over Shestheman’s wonderful abilities, he is not ready to make any move in hurry. The trainer insisted that the connections will make decision on the filly’s summer plans after watching her progress in the upcoming events.
"She's in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot as well and there is no rush with her," he stated.
