David Lanigan in hopes to run down the Triple Crown sensation, Camelot, by sending in Main Sequence at Doncaster
The unbeaten juvenile and honoured as the runner-up of the Group 1 Investec Derby, the three-year-old, Main Sequence, remains to be trainer, David Lanigan’s hope for the ultimate Classic of the season at Doncaster on 15th September.
The chestnut colt lost the Derby at the hands of the Aidan O’Brien trained, Camelot, and then missed the French Group 1 on 14th July by falling prey to the deceptive speed of stable mate of the Investec Derby winner, Imperial Monarch.
For Galileo’s three-year-old Irish colt, Imperial Monarch, racing the Group 1 Juddmonte Grand Prix De Paris at Longchamp over a mile and four furlongs, did not seem to be much of an issue at all.
The only time that he had to overcome challenge was when inside the final furlong he had to battle over the final strides from the reeling in rival, Last Train. Main Sequence on the other hand was having a hard day as the track deprived him of enough space
to set or break into pace that would guarantee him a decent finish.
Aldebaran’s chestnut colt ended fourth in the field of nine while riding with jockey, Ted Durcan.
It has been during the second half of the new season that the Niarchos Family owned has started compromising on being the first one through the wire otherwise the first four outing of his career outings are successes.
That has to be counted as one of the reasons that the expectations and the confidence of the trainer, David Lanigan has not wavered from the stable star. He proclaims that the horse has never been as fit and in from ever since the Derby.
The last race was a bitter sweet experience in a way that the connections did suffer disappointment, but at the same time it also ensured the connections that the St Leger distance would not be troublesome for the their wonder horse.
"It gives us a lot more options. Anything from a mile and a half, I'd be reluctant to bring him back to a mile and a quarter. There are a lot of things - the Leger, the Breeders' Cup and the Prix Niel - and we have to think about next year as well,” shared
the enthusiastic trainer.
