David Lee could return next week for Golden State Warriors
Golden State Warriors power-forward David Lee said on Wednesday that his elbow is slowly getting back to normal and the five-year veteran said the he will likely return next week.
Lee, who sustained a nasty injury when he accidentally elbowed Wilson Chandler in the mouth in their game against the New York Knicks on 10 November, had his stitches and catheter removed from his right elbow
on Wednesday 24 November. The 27-year-old power-forward believes that he can suit up when the Warriors go up against the San Antonio Spurs next Tuesday 30 November.
“I hope to be back here in the next week or so,” said Lee, who is averaging 14.3 points and 11.3 rebounds in eight games with the Warriors this season. “I am really doing a lot better. It’s just going to
be a matter now of having the wound heal from the two surgeries.”
The former Florida stand-out admitted he was worried with reports that the injury was more serious than they thought, thinking he would be sidelined for a longer stretch this season. The five-year veteran
also noted that he was bothered for not having a timetable for his return, unlike any other injuries where the doctors could immediately determine how long a player would be sidelined.
“What worried me was with an ankle sprain or a knee-to-knee deal, you know how long you're going to be out,” said Lee, who was acquired by the Warriors in the deal that sent Kelenna Azubuike, Ronny Turiaf,
and Anthony Randolph to the New York Knicks during the off-season. “It's tough when you don't know what to expect. I've learned that you're better off to get bit by a rabid dog than a human.”
Without Lee, the Warriors (7-7), who started the season with a 6-2 record, dropped five of their six games played without Lee, and were out-rebounded in all of those five defeats. Golden State will try to
snap their three-game losing skid when they go up against the Houston Rockets on Wednesday 24 November at the Toyota Center in Houston.
