David Lee scores 29 as Golden State Warriors down Cleveland Cavaliers 105-95 - NBA Recap
Golden State Warriors have had a mixed season so far.
They started with a loss, then won two in a row and after that lost five straight games. Although consistency is missing; but Warriors are definitely getting better with time.
On Sunday night, they convincingly overpowered the Detroit Pistons and just two nights after the win, they put up yet another solid performance and used 4th quarter muscle to humble the Cleveland Cavaliers 105-95.
After a gallant effort from both sides, the third frame of the game finally ended with Golden State Warriors only ahead by 2 points 81-79.
Alonzo Gee drilled two from the charity stripe in the starting minute of the deciding frame to make it 81 all. However in the ensuing passage, Warriors rattled a crucial 11-6 spurt to turn the momentum to their side, by making it 92-87. The Cavs however
kept fighting from the other end and were at a striking distance, behind by 3 points 93-96 with three minutes remaining.
After that though the Cavs froze and the Warriors fuelled a game deciding 9-2 burst to complete a 10 point victory.
"That's what good teams do," Warriors coach Mike Jackson said. "Despite the adversity, find a way to get it done. Our guys did exactly that. When you compete and defend, you'll win your share of games in this league."
David Lee was outstanding and led the Warriors with his season high 29 points on 13 for 20 from inside the arc and 9 boards. 13 out of his 29 points came in the decisive quarter.
"Coach kept calling my number," Lee said. "I wanted to be aggressive. I was able to get some good looks and take advantage of what we were running."
Reserves played their part to perfection as well.
Nate Robinson had a double-double with 17 points and 10 assists while Brandon Rush and Klay Thompson both netted 14 apiece. Monta Ellis struggled tonight and only managed to accumulate 10 points.
Antawn Jamison marshalled the Cavs with 19 points on an accurate 3 for 3 from the charity stripe whereas the Rookie Kyrie Irving bundled 18 points and 8 rebounds. Semih Erden came off the bench late and drained 14 points on 6 for 8 from the floor.
It was a welcome victory for Warriors who are still without key point guard Stephen Curry.
