David Lee stars as Golden State Warriors edge out Washington Wizards 101-97: NBA Recap
Golden State Warriors dropped the Washington Wizards 101-97 after a very close game here at Verizon Center, Saturday night. The Warriors won their third road game in row and their 10th of 12 overall.
The Warriors gave a strong rebounding performance on the night, out-rebounding the Wizards 57-37.
"Our whole focus is to rebound the ball and let the scoring take care of itself." Lee commented.
David Lee was the MVP for the Warriors as he posted 24 points and grabbed 17 rebounds, Klay Thompson collected 23 points, and Stephen Curry added 22 points as the starters for the Warriors scored the bulk of points for the GSW.
Jordan Crawford came off the bench to score 22 points and dish out 8 assists, Bradley Beal collected 17 points while Kevin Seraphin chipped in with 14 points for the Wizards, who are now 2-15 after this loss. Washington had a further
setback as guard A.J. Price broke his right hand four minutes into the game.
"I knew I hurt myself right away but I was going to try and play through it, came down, I think the next possession and tried to throw the crosscourt pass and really couldn't get anything behind it. I figured if I can't pass, then
I'm just going to hurt my team," Price commented on his injury afterwards.
Stephen Curry nailed a three pointer in the early goings of the first period to put the Warriors up 7-3. Both teams were equally matched in intensity and a Bradley Beal dunk shot put the Warriors ahead on 14-13. The Warriors started
pulling ahead slowly later in the period and had carved out a 28-21 advantage by the end of the quarter.
Golden State kept up the good work and a Charles Jenkins jumper pushed their advantage to 33-21 early in the second period. The Wizards started slashing the deficit gradually and a Seraphin layup made it 35-39, only for the Warriors
to strike back.  They were up 50-41 with 47.8 seconds to go in the half before Martin nailed two from behind the arc to reduce the deficit to 47-50 at halftime.
The third period witnesses back and forth exchange of leads between the two sides and the Wizards were trailing 70-71 as they headed into the final period. Warriors started the fourth with a 7-0 run, jumping up to 78-70. The Wizards
however responded with a 9 nil spurt to snatch the lead at 79-78.
The Warriors then started to pull ahead and were up 93-85 at one stage before two quick three pointers by Crawford made it a three point game on 92-95. It was 96-97 for the Wizards with 8.8 seconds on the clock but the Warriors
kept their cool to finish them off at 101-97.
