David Lemieux returns to the ring in December
Undefeated middleweight prospect David Lemieux's next fight has been announced.
Netboxe.com confirms that Lemieux, 21, will take on Purnell “Knock You Out” Gates (18-1) of Grandville, Michigan, on December 3. The fight will take place at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada, as part two of the ongoing “Fast & Furious”
boxing series.
The fight will be set at the catchweight of 163 pounds and scheduled for 10 rounds.
Lemieux, the current WBC International middleweight champion, has seen just two rounds of action in his last two bouts — stopping both Elvin Ayala and Hector Camacho Jr. in the first round of recent contests.
His last performance against Camacho Jr., a one-time top contender and son of the legendary Hector Camacho Sr., was his most notable.
While many thought the fight would proceed to later rounds due to Camacho Jr.'s slick defense and style in the ring, Camacho was brutally floored by Lemieux early and was unable to get to his feet in time for the count.
With the win, Lemieux secured his place as one of the top up-and-coming middleweights in the sport. He is ranked No.3 middleweight in the world by the WBC, WBA, and No.11 by the WBO.
Lemieux is an orthodox fighter who is trained by the likes of Russ Anber, one of the most respected boxing trainers in Canada. Lemieux utilizes a classic fighting style, with an emphasis on accurate shots and crippling power.
As he has yet to meet a formidable match, it is unclear if he can take a shot as well as he can dish them out.
Lemieux and Gates will reportedly be the co-feature bout of the evening, with a final positioning Sebastien Demers (31-3) against Renan St-Juste (21-2) for the NABO super middleweight crown.
Arash Usmanee (9-0) will also be fighting for the NABA super featherweight title against Mexican veteran Pedro Navarette (25-9).
