David Lingmerth leads after two rounds at the Neediest Kids Championship
David Lingmerth followed his opening-round 66 with another four-under par 66 in the second round of the Neediest Kids Championship, to take a one stroke lead over Josh Persons and Brad Fritsch, on Friday, October 5, 2012.
The $600,000 event is being played at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm, featuring some of the prominent names on the Web.com Tour.
Lingmerth got off to a solid start, as he parred each of the first three holes and followed that by a run of three straight birdies. He then conceded a bogey on the eighth hole and managed to offset that with a birdie on the very next hole.
His start to the back nine was also impressive. He signed a birdie on the 10th hole. However, his tee shot on the 11th hole went slightly out of the fairway.
A small mistake turned into a huge one, when he found the ball was surrounded by a deep mud.
"The ball hit the fairway and then trickled into the first cut of rough," he said. "There was mud all over it. I couldn't even see the ball at first”.
He then used his 4-iron from 210 yards into the greenside hazards. It was another mistake that he made on a single hole.
"I don't know if it was the mud or it was me," he said of his second shot. "The ball was sitting up in the hazard and I thought I could get it on the green. That stuff is tricky. My club just got stuck and the ball didn't go two feet. It went deep in the
grass so I had to take a drop”.
In total, he used five shots to reach the green and had a chance of making a double bogey from 12 feet, which he missed in the end for a triple bogey.
Despite making a huge blunder, he did not lose his temperament and continued displaying some good set of skills on the course.
As a result, he managed to add another three shots to his scorecard. At the end of two rounds, he had an eight-under par overall score.
He was still happy with his overall performance in the first two rounds, especially when he found himself on the top of the leaderboard.
