David Lingmerth wins the Neediest Kids Championship
David Lingmerth carded a four-under par 66 in the final round of the Neediest Kids Championship, to record the first professional win of his career, on Sunday, October 7, 2012.
The $600,000 tournament was being played at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm and featured some of the big names from the Web.com Tour.
Lingmerth started off his final round campaign with a tied eighth position on the leaderboard. However, he did not take much time to surge to the top of the leaderboard.
He got off to a perfect start by recording a par putt on the first hole and followed that with a birdie on the second hole. Another birdie on the sixth hole allowed him to reach the turn with a two-under par score.
His start to the back nine of the course was even better. He birdied three of the first five holes to reach the top.
He then ended his campaign with a bogey on the 18th hole. Yet, it did not hurt him much, as he still managed to finish the tournament with the top position on the leaderboard.
At the end of the tournament, he was handed over a cheque worth $108,000 that vaulted him from the 27th to the 7th position in the Web.com Tour money list.
With only two tournaments left before the Tour Championship, he has virtually qualified for the 2013 PGA Tour playing card.
According to the PGA Tour qualifying rules, the top-25 players from the Web.com Tour money list will receive playing cards for the upcoming season.
"It feels fantastic," said Lingmerth, as he waited along the greenside for the trophy presentation. "I've been working my whole life for an opportunity to play with the big boys. This is huge because I've been close a few times. It took me a little while
but this feels great”.
Despite the fact that the playing conditions on day four were really tough, Lingmerth kept on hitting the fairways and the greens in regulation – he hit 12 of 14 fairways and 14 of 18 greens.
"I was really calm all day," said the winner. "You've really got to golf your ball out here. The key ingredient this week was that I finally got to make some putts. I knew I wasn't putting up to my ability this year and I finally found a feeling that I like”.
