David Lipsky happy with the third-place finish at the Malaysian Open – Golf News
The United States’ David Lipsky, who is playing his rookie season on the Asian Tour, finished his Maybank Malaysian Open campaign on a high note. He finished tied for the third place at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.
Lipsky started off his round with a sixth place on the leaderboard, with a 10-under par 52-hole score.
Later, he added a two-under par 70 to his total with the help of five birdies and three bogeys in the final round on Sunday, April 15, 2012.
At the end of the tournament, he was tied with Rafael Cabrera-Bello and Danny Willett, with a tournament score of 12-under par 276.
This is not the first time that he has played so impressively in a field that consisted of some of the big names from the European Tour.
He recorded a win in the Handa Faldo Classic last month, followed by a second-place finish at the Handa Classic in Singapore prior to coming to Kuala Lumpur.
“It’s been great. I have been pretty consistent off the tee and my putter has been cooperative as well,” said Lipsky, who pocketed €97,558.
“I’m really happy with my game. I’m proud with how I handled myself, especially with the crowds as I have never been in an event like this,” he added. “I can’t believe where I’m at right now. I’m so happy”.
Despite the fact that he finished the tournament with a five-stroke deficit against the winner, Louis Oosthuizen, he looked pleased with his performance and said that it was the best finish he could have recorded against some of the big names of golf.
There were a total of five major winners participating in the event and one of them, Oosthuizen, raised the trophy in the end.
“You can’t be upset with a third place finish. I stayed close. But I wasn’t hitting it close enough to give myself opportunities to win and beat Louis,” he said. “He shot a 17-under which is great golf”.
He will now move to Jakarta, where he will participate in the Indonesian Masters, slated to start at the prestigious Jakarta Golf Club from April 19 to 22, 2012.
