David http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DA-Warner-c1301 surprised over Kevin Pietersen’s career threatening move - Cricket News Update
Former English batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 putting his Test career on the line, owing to his ongoing rift with the ECB.
“I'm really sad it's come to this because Pietersen is a wonderful player and every time I've met him he's been very polite,” the 65-year-old said.
Following up his magnificent performance during the Headingley Test, Pietersen held an unexpected press-conference and talked about his differences with the English Board and management. He revealed uncertainty over his Test future and said that the Lord’s Test could be his last.
Lloyd believes that the time is closing in for the ECB high-ups to make a final decision over the issue which could play a detrimental role for the team unity ahead of the crucial Lord’s Test.
“The selectors now have decisions to make. He's saying the next Test could be his last, but could the management now pre-empt that and tell him he's already played his final game?,” said the former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806 captain.
Pietersen had announced his retirement from the One-Day cricket in May, citing a tough cricketing schedule, but he irked the officials by expressing his desire to play for the IPL at the cost of the Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754.
According to the ECB’s contract, no player is allowed to pick and choose between the two limited-overs format, where leaving one automatically disqualifies the player from the other. The condition meant that KP had to forego his T20 international career/
“Pietersen has a contract with the ECB, as many other players do. If all 14 contracted players started insisting on which games they wanted to play in it would be totally unworkable,” the former left-handed batsman further added.
As it stands, ECB is likely to offer a Test-only contract to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851 batsman, but Lloyd reckons that the player’s continued insistence on exclusive treatment - to play a full IPL season -  might just  lead to an premature end to his otherwise impressive career.
For now, the national team will be hoping to have KP for the all-important third Test, starting from August 16th.
