David Lopez takes on equally competent Julio Cesar Garcia in a non-title bout – Boxing News
David Lopez, the former NABA light middleweight champion, will enter the ring in a non-title bout against fellow countryman Julio Cesar Garcia, the former WBA Continental Americas light welterweight champion, and will headline the ‘Night of Knockouts’ pay-per-view
which will be televised live on Saturday May 26, 2012.
The ring for the event will be set up at Gimnasio Auditorio Jorge Campos in La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico and the event will be promoted by Reginaldo and Oswaldo Kuchle of Promociones del Pueblo.
The above duo will take on each other in a 10-round showdown whereas the night will be co-headlined by the non-title eight-round bantamweight bout between Edgar Monarrez and Alberto Ruiz.
David and Julio both are veteran pugilists who boast seriously intimidating and hefty resumes. Lopez, 34, has been in a total 53 bouts and boasts 40 wins. The southpaw has nailed 23 of his opponents by knockout and recently collided with Austin Trout for
the WBA World light middleweight title.
Also known as ‘The Destroyer’, David has literally annihilated almost each and every man in various divisions from middleweight to heavyweight. Lopez has collected 13 losses in his career and has proudly held almost all the apex divisional titles.
His Saturday night opponent, Julio has been in a total 50 bouts and possesses a rather more impressive resume then Lopez. Cesar has emerged victorious in a total 45 bouts and has nailed a huge 38 opponents by knocking them out cold.
Julio is on a two-bout win streak since his last loss to Michel Rosales and has interestingly collected wins over both, Paul Rodriguez and Jose Luis Zertuche, by knockout. As far as the stats are concerned both men are equal, the only thing that might aid
any one of the two during the bout, will be strategy or the game plan.
Lopez has a substantial height and therefore the reach advantage which will definitely help him out in throwing powerful jabs from a considerable distance while keeping his own self safe.
The second advantage, which if capitalised well might give Lopez an upper hand over Julio, is his southpaw stance. A powerful mind jolting punch from a huge distance with much speed from a left-hander will definitely create problems for the orthodox Julio.
All the above advantages might become useless if Julio breaches Lopez’s circle and hooks him from inside out. In this scenario, David will be in great danger since Julio is the one who is entering the bout with the powerful knockout ability. The bout will
be a tooth and nail one since both men are top-notch high-calibre pugilists and the bout will certainly mesmerise the Mexican boxing fanatics.
