David Luiz glad not to face Fernando Torres
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 when Chelsea go up against Liverpool on Sunday, 6 February, 2011 at Stamford Bridge.
Both players signed for the Blues during the final day of the January 2011 transfer window for a combined fee of more than 75 million pounds.
Luiz had been the number one target of manager Carlo Ancelotti as he looked to plug up the holes in the Chelsea defence. The Blues pursued the defender for almost a month, finally sealing the 25-million-pound switch on the final day of the transfer window.
However, Luiz’s move to Stamford Bridge has been completely overshadowed by the arrival of Fernando Torres from Liverpool.
The World Cup winner was brought in for a whopping 50 million pounds. But Luiz is not worried about being pushed out of the limelight by Torres. The defender says he is just happy that Torres is on his side.
Luiz believes that defending against the striker is a nightmare, and he is relieved that he would not be facing Torres.
The former Benfica man said, “He (Torres) is difficult of course because he is a big player. So now I am so happy that I can play in the same team as him and not against him.”
Luiz’s comments come on the eve of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809. The English champions are set to face the resurgent Reds at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Luiz is likely to make his debut for the Blues in Sunday’s match. The defender expressed his delight
at playing for a club with such a storied history.
He said, “The best league in the world is the Premier League, so I am so happy to be here playing with and against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Big-Players-c38635. All great players want to play against other great players, and I hope this is my time.”
It was Torres who earned Liverpool all three points in the fixture at Anfield earlier in the 2010-11 season. Now that the Spaniard is on the other side of the fence, Chelsea have a good chance of avenging their defeat.
