David McLellan, Martin O’Donnell, Mitchell Mann move into round 2 – 2011 World Snooker Q School
David McLellan, Martin O’Donnell and Mitchell Mann have successfully moved into Round 2 after registering wins in the best-of-seven frames Round 1 of the event three of this season’s World Snooker Q School.
This event is currently being held at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
David Singh 3-4 David McLellan
The opening match of the session was a cutthroat competition between the Englishman David Singh and Scotland’s professional David McLellan.
Overall, it was a cagey match, as both players dug deep into the safety battle. However, in the end it was the Scottish who held his nerves to edge past his opponent in the deciding frame. He also knocked in the only dominant break of the match, 66, in the
fourth frame.
Martin O’Donnell 4-2 Hans Blanckaert
It was yet another dull match between the Englishman, Martin O’Donnell and Belgium’s professional, Hans Blanckaert.
However, the Englishman came far superior to his opponent in the battle of nerves and secured a place in the next round to stay in the hunt. Blanckaert pocketed the first frame on the final black ball to lead 1-0, which he further extended to 2-0 by winning
the following second.
From the third frame however, the Englishman was almost invincible, as he showed no reeling effects and took all four frames in a row to register an impressive 4-2 win. The Scottish had his chances in the meanwhile but he failed to capitalise on them and
has now lost his hope of being a part of the professional circuit.
Mitchell Mann 4-0 Shehzad Iqbal
The most dominant performance of the session came in the last match. Mitchell Mann, who outplayed Shaun Murphy in the first PTC event, completely whitewashed Shehzad Iqbal by a 4-0 frame score.
Mann did not need to play his best snooker, as he was able to win his opponent with only two breaks of 50 and 49.
Alex O’Donoghue meanwhile received a walkover, as James Silverwood withdrew from the competition. The other players who received walkovers were Lasse Munstermann and Duane Jones.
