David Millar included in the Great Britain’s Olympics squad
The 2012 Olympic Games is undoubtedly the biggest sporting event of the year and the selectors are spending a significant amount of time and thought to short list their best men for the contest.
Most of the teams have already finalised their squad for the race and Team Great Britain also joined the party this morning.
The selectors have included David Millar in their final five and the former gold medallist has been given yet another chance to prove his strengths at the race.
Court of Arbitration for Sport imposed a life-time Olympic ban on Millar because of his involvement in a doping case.
The cyclist admitted the charges in 2004 and was banned to ride for a period of two years. However, British Olympic Association also banned him from participating at Olympics for the rest of his life.
While commenting on the BOA decision, Millar told BBC earlier, "This is not the easy path for me. I had written off the Olympics".
"To decide to go to the Olympics is to now regurgitate everything and deal possibly with negative reactions and interviews about the past. Going back to living in the past is not something I want to do, I want to look forward".
"Digging up the past and having to justify myself and deal with the media, it would have been much easier for me simply to not go then all I would probably have got was a positive reaction from martyring myself".
The 35-year-old marked his professional debut in 1999 with Team Cofidis and spent a period of eight years with the side.
He accepted an offer from Team Saunier Duval-Prodir and stayed with the side through 2006-07 before accepting an offer from Team Slipstream-Chipotle in 2008.
Four out of five British cyclists selected for the Olympics are currently riding the Tour de France including Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish, Chris Froome and David Millar.
UCI Road World Champion Mark Cavendish is a pre-race favourite for the coming Olympics race, scheduled on July 28, in Surrey, London.
Top five cyclists to represent Great Britain at the Olympics include, Mark Cavendish (Team Sky), Chris Froome (Team Sky), David Millar (Garmin-Sharp), Ian Stannard (Team Sky) and Bradley Wiggins (Team Sky).
