David Morris downs Michael Wild to qualify for main tour – 2011 World Snooker Q School
David Morris has defeated Michael Wild by a frame score of 4-3 in the best-of-seven frame quarter-final match of the event 2 of this season’s World Snooker Q School.
This event is being held at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
Morris, who made his TV debut at the World Open in September 2010, was relegated from the professional circuit, as he could not perform well afterwards. However, he has successfully returned to the professional circuit once again.
Meanwhile the Englishman Wild, who previously beat the likes of Robert Valiant, Mike Hallett, David Singh and Lee Spick, stumbled on the last hurdle.
Though it was a fully stretched battle, Morris displayed magnificent encouraging fighting qualities to clinch the victory. The overall score-line between both players was 31-84 (56); 47-65 (52); 95 (57)-6; 14-68 and 69 (60)-21; 63-32 and 63-52 (51).
Morris dominated the opening frame with a dominant frame of 56 to draw the first blood 1-0. In the second frame, a few chances were exchanged before Morris again fired a classy break of 52 to further extend his lead by 2-0.
Though Wild responded in the third with a carving break of 57 to come within one frame at 2-1, he lost the fourth again.
It looked as if the match was over before Wild, who was left with two frames and three to play, bounced back into the game and won the sixth and seventh frames to force the decider. He also showcased a marvellous break of 60 in the meanwhile.
The final deciding frame was a bit dramatic, as the first chance in it fell for Wild before he lost his nerves breaking down on 51. A bout of safety play was seen among the players afterwards but in the end, it was the Irish who came on the top to seal his
victory.
Morris told the media, “With the new rankings points system last season, I didn't know where I was. One minute I was 55th and the next 70th. By the time I realised I was in danger of dropping off the tour, it was too late. But to have this chance to get
back on straight away, and to take it, is perfect for me. I've still got the hunger to win.”
The other players who have joined him on the professional circuit are Tian Pengfei, Li Yan and Simon Bedford.
