David Moyes: “I would have booed after that”
Everton boss David Moyes has defended the Blues supporters who booed his team off after yesterday’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United at Goodison Park.
Hatem Ben Arfa’s stunning long range strike condemned the Merseyside outfit to their third defeat of the season, with the winless Blues sitting second from bottom of the table on just two points – their worst Premier League start in 16 years.
An unhappy Moyes has now challenged his players to recover.
“I would have booed after that,” said the Scot. “They are good players but they now need to stand up and be counted.
“We didn't start the game well and Newcastle deserved the victory, I've got no qualms about that. We had no real chances up until 90 minutes, we're not kidding ourselves.”
Skipper Mikel Arteta isn’t kidding himself either, but as some supporters start to fear the prospect of a relegation battle, he’s backing his team-mates to come good.
“Yesterday wasn't good enough,” he said, “we're not happy. I don't think anybody can be happy and proud of what we have done yesterday.
“We need to put it right. We've done it many times and we need to do it again.”
