David Moyes ecstatic with Everton’s FA Cup victory
Everton manager, David Moyes hailed the fighting spirit of his players after he saw the Toffees progress to the quarterfinal stage of the FA Cup. Everton defeated reigning champions Chelsea on Saturday, 19
February, to book their place in the quarter-finals of England’s most prestigious cup competition. The Toffees won 4-3 on penalties.
Chelsea looked to be on their way to yet another victory over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 put the Blues ahead in the 104th minute. However, Leighton Banes had other ideas. The left-back stunned the
reigning champions with a late equalizer, ensuring that the match would be decided on penalties.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Phil-Neville-c29904 scored the vital penalty to ensure Everton’s place in the quarterfinal stage of the FA Cup.
Moyes was delighted with the victory. The Toffees’ boss claimed that the result signalled the return of their never-say-die attitude.
Moyes said, “This is Chelsea's first defeat in the cup in nearly three years, so today I have to praise the players - they were immense throughout. The goalkeeper made two or three brilliant saves, which we needed. I hope today
we're able to send 6,000 (fans) home with a much better feeling about our team and our club.”
For Chelsea, it was yet another bitter pill to swallow. The Blues are enduring a lacklustre season, which is steadily going from bad to worse. The FA Cup was perhaps http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s last hope of winning silverware this year. The Blues
are already out of the Carling Cup, and the Premier League crown is beyond their reach.
While they are still in with a shot of winning the Champions League, their poor form of late will hardly make them favourites to win Europe’s biggest club competition.
However, manager Carlo Ancelotti downplayed the significance of Chelsea’s FA Cup loss. The Blues boss said, “This is football. Every time the team doesn't reach the result, obviously the manager is under pressure. I have fantastic
support from the club, from my players. And together we have to move on."
Now, let us see whether the Blues can ‘move on’ when they face FC Copenhagen in the Champions League in a few days time.
