Daid Moyes reflects on Everton’s loss to Wolves
English Premier Club, Everton’s manager, David Moyes, has said that, his new signing Jermaine Beckford would play a big part in reviving the season for his team after a poor start to the new campaign. Moyes was understandably frustrated after his team threw away a great chance of winning the match against Wolves in their 2nd match.
Everton had dominated the game for most of the duration, but the constant bullish attacking approach from Wolves saw them concede through Sylvan Ebanks-Blake’s strike. Everton were leading for most part of the game through their inspirational midfielder Tim Cahill’s goal.
Moyes said that Cahill has been one of the most consistent and influential players in his team for some time now. He said that it’s rare that a player from Australia makes such an impact in English football. Moyes went on to say that Cahill is one player that he can always count on and more times than not he delivers.
The manager went on to say that the free signing of Beckford is one of the best pieces of business he has done at the club. Moyes said that Beckford has the ability to adapt to the team quickly and would make an impression on the team in the coming matches. He added that on his home debut there was enough evidence to suggest that he would be here for the long haul.
Beckford was substituted in his debut game with 20 minutes left in the game and there was a resounding standing ovation for him. Moyes said that you can see how the fans already adore him and he is also feeling at home here. The Mersey side manager said that he sure looks to be the real deal and he has no doubts that Jermaine would get the team lots of goals in future.
Everton boss, reflecting back on the match said that, when a team does not take its chances it does come back to haunt them in the end at times. It was the same with Everton at 1-0 up they did have couple of great chances but failed to capitalize. He said that Cahill was no doubt great in offense but maybe did not test the opposition’s keeper enough.
Everton were desperate for points on home ground, after a dismal performance in their opening match of the season against Blackburn last week. Everton did look to be on their game in the first half of the game. However, they let the visitors get back in the 2nd half of the game. They took their foot off the paddle and paid a heavy price.
David Moyes said that his team failed to get out of first gear in the 2nd half. He went on to say the problem areas have been identified by him and he would no doubt work on them before the next game.
The Everton manager said that ever since he arrived at Goodson Park his aim has been to break into the monopoly of the top 4 in the English Premier League. He added that it is not fair on a team like Everton, who work hard on their academies and grass roots to groom players. That teams like Manchester City come in with bags full of money and buy whoever they want from Europe. He added that it is polluting the game and its ethics, and if money continued to dominate the game then there would not be much left in academies and the system of bringing players up through the ranks. However, he ended by saying that he would continue to do what he does best and work on the grass roots, while others can spend the cash and results in the long run would determine if money can buy success.
