David Nalbandian eager to perform better in the Davis Cup tie against Germany – Tennis News
World number 81, David Nalbandian, had a formidable season in 2012. He faced a lot of litigations relating to his code of conduct at the courts. He was punished for throwing water at the Australian Open official when his correct
call was overruled by the chair umpire. He was right to be angry but the reaction was a bit too severe.
It was harsh on someone who played an enthralling five-setter contest against the 16th seed American star, John Isner, and lost deep in the final set due to that wrong call. He was in the final of the AEGON Championships
at London and leading the set scores by 1-0 but missed an easy shot and in an angry frame of mind smashed the advertisement hoardings that in turn injured the linesman. He was suspended from the contest and all the points from the tournament and the Croatian
star, Marin Cilic, was crowned the champion.
However, the season is over and the 30-year-odl Argentine has learned his lesson. He is ready to payback his country with a Davis Cup victory against the strong German squad and help Argentina to advance in the World Group battle.
While conducting a press conference, Nalbandian said, “I'll do the pre-season in mid-December. Whether I'll go to Australia or not depends on the surface they choose for the Davis Cup. I also plan to play the tournaments in South America on clay. Germany will
be a tough opponent. But we must all try and work towards having the best possible team in the Davis Cup. I will try hard to enter 2013 list of Top 50 best players. I can always get there if I get lucky in terms of injuries and don't get a tough draw at the
big events.”
Nalbandian understands that beating a versatile German squad will not be an easy task but the experience Argentine squad will look to defy the odds and raise their heads high. Nalbandian will take part in the Copa Peugeot 2012
tennis event that is scheduled to contest in Buenos Aires from December 6-9, 2012. It will be a good training session for the New Year.
