David Nolan excels in Men’s 200yard backstroke heats: Day three – NCAA Division 1 Championship Meet
David Nolan of Stanford impressed his fans in the qualification rounds of Men’s 200yard backstroke on day three of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 Championship Meet at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Seattle, Wash on Saturday, March 24.
Nolan demonstrated his gruelling efforts in the distant backstroke event. He faced strong competition from his rivals throughout the event but they capitulated, as Nolan showed no signs of slowing down.
With his undisputed efforts, Nolan faced no difficulty in claiming top qualification spot of the discipline and ended his race in a time of 1 minute and 40.54 seconds. He was followed by Cory Chitwood of Arizona, who obtained second best qualification spot of the race by posting a time of 1 minute and 40.75 seconds.
Matthew Swanston of Stanford snared third best spot of the discipline as he stayed 0.48 seconds behind and transpired in the final round with the timing of 1 minute and 41.23 seconds.
His teammate, Matthew Thompson remained only 0.20 seconds slower from Swanston and settled on the finishing blockade as fourth fastest swimmer by submitting a time of 1 minute and 41.43 seconds.
Moments later, the crowd witnessed stupendous efforts of Vladimir Morozov of Southern California in the Men’s 100yard freestyle preliminary rounds. Morozov stayed marginally ahead of his challengers and entered the final round as top fastest swimmer with an effort of 42.13 seconds.
Morozov was chased by Marcelo Chierighini of Auburn, who remained just 0.18 seconds behind and ended his race with the timing of 42.31 seconds. Aaron Wayne of Stanford proved his mettle for the third position of the 100yard discipline as he stayed 0.17 seconds apart and concluded his swim in a time of 42.48 seconds.
Joao De Lucca of Louisville captured fourth qualifying position of the freestyle event as he posted a time of 42.59 seconds to reach the playoff.
The session concluded after the completion of all swimming events while these finalists will race each other in their respective events, where the top three finishers will be awarded medals at the prize distribution ceremony of the session.
