David Obernosterer casts out Ye Min to secure a pre quarter-finals berth in Canada Open 2012
Men’s Singles campaigner David Obernosterer continued his successful run and cleared second hurdle en-route to pre quarter-finals of Yonex Canada Open on Thursday, July 12, 2012.
The Austrian shuttler toppled Ye Min Aung in second round match by registering a winning score of 16-21, 21-9 and 21-12.
This 38-minute tussle, played at Richmond Oval badminton arena, proved tough trial of both contender’s mental and physical strength but David passed this test with distinction.
Though, he took some time to gain the momentum but never looked back after getting on the right track.
On the other hand, the Myanmar shuttler squandered a golden chance of straight-set win and bid adieu to this Grand Prix tournament.
Ye Min pushed his competitor on the back-foot by putting laudable fight in first set of the match.
He laid the foundation of dominance with three consecutive points straight away in the beginning.
He gathered valuable points at a steady pace and mounted pressure with 9-6 but then lost his grip just before half time.
The opposing shuttler did not miss this opportunity and prevailed in five continuous rallies to place a respectable total of 11-9.
However, Ye Min stormed back immediately after the break and counterbalanced the situation with 13-13 margin.
He carried this momentum all the way to game point situation and won the opening set with 21-16 score on the board.
This first set loss did not harm David Obernosterer much as he rose from the dust in following set and brought the contest to the right balance.
Though, he was bit cautious in the beginning but a power packed campaign after 6-6 took him to dominating position of 11-8 before the interval.
Later part of the game saw him everywhere on court and beating his competitor with great authority.
He bagged 10 out of last 11 points and finished second segment of the match with a staggering knock of 21-9.
Third set was expected to be a nerve-racking tussle but it turned one-sided affair after mid-game break.
The Austrian was standing at 11-10 in the first half but he locked the honour with concluding figure of 21-12.
Now David is scheduled to meet higher ranked Indian shuttler Arvind Bhat in third round of the event.
