David Obernosterer enters into main round of Austrian International Challenge 2011 – Badminton News
Austrian badminton player, David Obernosterer, has entered into the main round in his home event of the Austrian International Challenge 2011, at Vienna, Austria, on February 21.
The local shuttler won his final battle of the qualifying round against Steffen Rasmussen, a shuttler from Denmark in the Men’s singles category. David will next meet the top seed and World Number 39, Pablo Abian of Spain.
After winning his first two matches of the qualifying round, he was confident to play his usual game against Danish Men’s Singles shuttler, Steffen Rasmussen. It was a three-set thriller fight between both players that took 47 minutes of hard labour. The
game was tied until the interval of the opening set. Right after the two-minute break, it was the Austrian shuttler who increased the pace of the game, to control the rallies and consequently won the opening set of the game after a good fight with a margin
of 21-17.
The second set was the reverse of the first one, as the Danish shuttler took prompt revenge and grabbed the game with a huge margin. Right from the starting points, the Danish player remained focused and controlled the speed of the game by manipulating all
the weaker areas of his opponent. The margin of the set was just remarkable, as Steffen won it by a 21-10 score.
The third and final game was a good fight, as both shuttlers worked hard until the interval. After the change of sides, the local hero started to build pressure by putting more speed into his game. His down the line smashes and accurate lifts in the back
of the court minimised the chances of his rival to dominate the game. David won the final set with a decent margin of 21-16 score and made his place into the main round of the Austrian International Challenge 2011.
In the main round of the draw, David Obernosterer will be fighting against Spanish shuttler, Pablo Abian, who is the number one seed of the event at Vienna, Austria. The local player is quite hopeful to perform well against the top seed in the main round
of the home event.
