David Ortiz expected to become free agent – MLB Update
Currently David Ortiz is a hot topic among the Major League players for his potential existing status.
He did not file for a free agency yet but things are now shaping up in detail and giving an impression that he will probably opt to become a free agent soon after the Boston Red Sox have not showed any interest to re-sign him.
Earlier news came that he probably will re-sign with the Red Sox but now speculations are mounting that he will enter the free agency market as he and his agent have discussed this issue in detail.
However, Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington is still optimistic and not giving any clear indication regarding Ortiz’s new contract or potential future status.
“Well, we're working on it, We've been talking to David since the end of the season, and it's been a good conversation. Everyone knows that we'd like to keep him, I think there's mutual interest. we've had a lot of talks, we've made up some ground in some areas, but we still have some work to do," said Cherington.
Cherington added, "We'll keep working on it, we get past tomorrow night, we'll continue to work on it. We remain hopeful that we'll keep him in a Red Sox uniform next year. Well, the landscape has changed a little bit in terms of the rules.”
Ortiz, a 15-year Major League veteran and is a highly talented hitter. His role as a designated hitter has won many games for the Red Sox.
He is among those few players who have been playing quite consistently throughout their entire career. He started his career in 1997 from the Minnesota Twins’ platform. Later in 2003, he joined the Red Sox and achieved the highest excellence in the game.
Ortiz has won many awards and remained consistent and with this entire perfect persistent, he carried his career forward and never let down his franchise.
Even this year, he was on top of his form and hit 23 homers along with 60 RBIs. His .318 hitting along with .415 OBP also makes him a pure hard hitter and a constant threat for the pitchers.
