David Ortiz finalises $26 Million deal with Boston Red Sox– MLB Update
After a row of speculations, the deal has been done with the Boston Red Sox and designated hitter David Ortiz.
The 15-year Major League Baseball veteran will be playing for two more years with the Red Sox. The deal is worth $26 million but its total worth could go up-to approximately $30 million adding bonuses and team revenues.
"I don't think there was any doubt, They approached me this year and our negotiation this year was easier than ever. They know what they were looking for. There wasn't even ever a back and forth situation. It was pretty much: 'This is it and let's agree with it.' They know the pieces they need to put together to be successful this year," Ortiz said during a Fenway Park news conference and told the reporters in detail about all the potential complexities he had to face signing with the Red Sox again.
Later the Red Sox General Manager Ben Cherington said, "After the season we identified a lot of things we wanted to do this offseason, The most important one was to get David signed. This is a very important first step to our offseason.”
Ortiz finished 2012 MLB season hitting with an average of .318 along with 23 homers, 60 RBIs and .415 OBP.
On the other hand, he has an illustrious career .285 hitting average along with 401 homers, 1326 RBIs and .380 OBP.
His 2012 Major League campaign was hurt with Achilles tendon injury which also placed him a narrow position where his future was on stake.
Earlier when the negotiations were in process, many news sources speculated in the media that Ortiz and his agent are not agreeing to a short term deal with the Red Sox management. While later it was revealed that the Red Sox’s management was the one who were not giving him a right amount of money regardless of a short term deal.
On the whole, now both sides have solved their issues and agreed with a mutual understanding which will also give all the involved parties a sigh of relief in crunch time of Boston Red Sox’s consistent future.
