David Ortiz not sure over his quick return on Monday – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox’s designated hitter David Ortiz has recently said in the media that he is not fully prepared to play on Monday as his injured heels are yet to recover fully.
“For guys that haven’t been strictly a DH, that’s a challenging routine for them, Particularly a catcher who’s in the flow of every pitch thrown and then you got nothing, being completely idle and walk up to the plate a little more cold,” Red Sox manager
John Farrell said.
He added, “We haven’t settled on any one combination or front-runner for that matter on who would be in David’s slot. We know it’s going to be a match-up situation, We’ve focused on a number of things behind the plate and have been very clear that he’s our
lead catcher and don’t want to veer off of that.”
Ortiz is considered one of the top hitters in the world. His career hitting average of .285 along with 401 home-runs, 1326 RBIs and .380 OBP is also considered one of the very best in the Major League.
His recent comments in the media about his delayed start certainly put the Red Sox on the back foot. However, it is still a big possibility that the Red Sox will compete even without Ortiz’s slightly delayed start.
Since Ortiz’s recent comments were published in the media, the Red Sox have turned their attention to go without Ortiz into the new Major League Baseball season.
The Red Sox have also some very good hitters including Stephen Drew, Mike Napoli and Dustin Pedroia.
These three are experienced players and know their offensive game quite well. Stephen Drew played a vital role in the last Major League outing in which he achieved .223 hitting average along with seven home-runs, 28 RBIs and .309 OBP. Overall he is carrying
a career hitting average of .265 along with 77 home-runs, 349 RBIs and .328 OBP.
Mike Napoli also did a wonderful job on the plate and achieved .259 hitting average along with 146 home-runs, 380 RBIs and .356 OBP receiving appreciation from the entire roster. It will be interesting to see when David Ortiz returns and is back in action
for the Red Sox.
