David Ortiz shines as Boston Red Sox rout Minnesota Twins 8-6 - MLB Update

Boston Red Sox designated hitter, David Ortiz had a notable day with the bat as he had three RBIs including three runs and went 4-for-5 with an average of .295 in the Red Sox 8-6 victory over the Minnesota Twins at Target Field, Minnesota on August 8.
The first inning was not in favour of the batters as the pitchers displayed a dominant performance and struck-out batters on their tremendous pitches. Red Sox batters opened the scoring account for their team by posting a single run at the top of the second
while the Twins blasted three runs to get off the mark and took a 3-1 lead at the bottom of the second inning.
Marco Scutaro hit a single-run drive towards centre-field as Ortiz completed the first run for the Red Sox and Jed Lowrie moved to second base. On the other side, Michael Cuddyer scored a tie run for the Twins when Jason Kubel singled off right-field. Then,
Kubel put the second or leading run on the score-board when Jim Thome doubled off deep right-centre. Thome scored the third run on the drive of Jarrod Saltalamacchia towards pitcher.
In the third inning, the batters were unsuccessful in taking runs as the pitchers threw perfectly. Red Sox starter, Tim Wakefield was little bit tremulous with the ball as he presented five runs, eight hits, three earned runs and one homer to the Twins’
batters. He was able to strike-out four batters on his 102 pitches.
Twins raised their lead 4-1 in the fourth inning when Kubel hit a solo homer (359 feet) towards right-field. During the fifth inning, the Twins got a 5-1 lead when Plouffe posted a single run on the drive of Mauer to deep right-centre. Red Sox added four
runs in the sixth inning to tie the game 5-5.
Ortiz struck a two-run homer (441 feet) to right-centre and Saltalamacchia homered (388 feet) to right-field while the last two runs were taken by Crawford and Dustin Pedroia, respectively. The game again levelled in the eighth inning but with 6-6 score
as both the teams put their individual runs on the score-board.
Ortiz contributed a single run for the Red Sox while Plouffe scored one run for the Twins. In the ninth inning, the Red Sox went ahead 8-6 when Darnell McDonald and Pedroia added two runs jointly. As a result, Red Sox led off with 1-0 in the three-game series.
