David Ortiz’s four RBIs help Boston Red Sox defeat Kansas City Royals 12-5 - MLB Update
Boston Red Sox designated hitter, David Ortiz was outstanding with the bat as he had four RBIs and went 1-for-4 in the Red Sox 12-5 win against the Kansas City Royals at Fenway Park, Boston on July 27.
Both teams blasted some respective runs in the first inning to boost up their momentum as the Royals added three runs at the top of the first while the Red Sox were able to contribute just two runs to cut their deficit 3-2 at the bottom of the first inning.
Eric Hosmer struck a three-run homer (394 feet) towards left-centre while Alex Gordon and Miguel Cabrera both scored two runs jointly to end the three-run campaign for the Royals. On the other hand, Jacoby Ellsbury homered (334 feet) to right-field and Dustin
Pedroia hit a solo homer (357 feet) towards left-field to add two runs for the Red Sox.
Red Sox batters smashed three runs in the second inning to go-ahead 5-3. Ellsbury walked and Marco Scutaro posted one run. The second run was taken by Darnell McDonald when Pedroia hit a sacrifice fly to right-field. Adrian Gonzalez was grounded out to second
base but Yamaico Navarro completed the third run of the second inning.
In the fourth inning, the Red Sox posted five quick runs to accelerate their lead 10-3. McDonald scored a single run on the drive of Navarro towards left-field. Ortiz hit a home-run (411 feet) to right field while Pedroia, Gonzalez and Kevin Youkilis all
scored three runs collectively to finish the five-run campaign.
Billy Butler hit a solo home-run (414 feet) towards left-field to reduce the Royals’ lead 10-4, at the top of the fifth inning. Red Sox got an 11-4 lead during the sixth inning when Ellsbury posted one run on the single-run shot of Gonzalez to centre-field.
Pedroia moved to second base at the end of the sixth inning.
During the eighth inning, Hosmer hit a single-run drive towards right-field and Gordon added one run for the Royals to reduce their lead while the Red Sox batters also contributed a single run to take their lead 12-5. Ellsbury scored the last run for the
Red Sox when Gonzalez singled off left-field.
Red Sox took a 2-1 lead in the four-game series after winning two consecutive games at Fenway Park.
