David Pauley sent to the minors – MLB Spring Training News
The 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Sessions have turned out to be a disaster for Detroit Tigers’ pitcher David Pauley. The right hander was hoping to secure a place on Tigers’ pitching rotation but he failed to live up to his immense potential.
Pauley made the most of available opportunities in his tenure with the Mariners. Showing his composure and dedication, he earned a decent 5-4 win-loss record with 2.15 ERA in 39 games. The starter had an excellent opportunity to carve an MVP-level career
for himself after he signed a deal with the Tigers. However, he posted poor stats for the Tigers in 2011 with 0-2 record and 5.95 ERA in 14 games.
"We tried to give him every opportunity, but sometimes, things just don't work out," manager Jim Leyland said about Pauley. “I personally want to thank David Pauley. He did everything we asked. I feel badly for him. I know he's better than what he showed.
I just hope things work out for him."
“It's no one's fault but my own," Pauley said in the clubhouse. "It was a tough situation. I wanted (to contribute) but it didn't happen. And that's all on me. That's kind of how baseball goes sometimes."
Spring training camp brought more disappointment for Pauley as he continued to struggle to find his line. The situation became worst with every passing game and Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland finally decided to send him to Tigers minor league system on Monday.
Pauley had arrived in Detroit with Mariners’ team mate Doug Fister, who is flourishing in Tigers’ rotation right now.
While things worked out perfectly for Fister, the 28 year old reliever was unable to deliver the goods. It is not easy to say why Pauley performances’ for the Tigers are not anywhere near to those for Mariners. A poor 16.87 ERA and .533 opposing average
in three Grapefruit League games is a clear sign of Pauley’s failure to accept a new working environment. The guy will be looking to produce consistent results in the minor league to bounce back strongly during the regular season.
