David Pipe to decide Grands Crus’ fate near Cheltenham Festival – Horseracing Update
The champion trainer, David Pipe, claims that he will decide whether to launch Grands Crus in RSA Chase or Gold Cup shortly before the start of the high-stakes Cheltenham Festival.
Starting with effective from March 13, Cheltenham Festival will have a number of races in which, many ace horses are set to show their guts.
Grands Crus is scheduled to participate in RSA Chase on March 14 and Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup on March 16.
RSA is a Grade 1 contest of 3m distance. It contains 36 entries. On the other hand, Grade 1 3m2f Gold Cup has 34 entries.
Both these events hold great significance. Therefore, Pipe is still unable to decide where to run his talented grey gelding who has recently registered a marvellous hat-trick.
The trainer is h**l-bent to keep Grands Crus’ unbeaten record intact and wants the dashing runner to win wherever he goes.
Pipe reveals that he is in no hurry to decide the fate of his pupil, claiming that he will hold keen discussion with his staff and the owner of the horse before making any final decision.
While speaking to the media today, the legendary trainer stated, “We will decide nearer the time. We have to see what's in the races and look at ground conditions and everything else. Horses miss Cheltenham for various reasons - not that we want that to
happen - and that will make an impact on which race he runs in.”
He further told, “I'm just keeping an open mind and we'll all sit down and have a chat. I'm sure a decision won't be made until seven to 10 days before the race.”
Grands Crus possesses an excellent track record. The seven-year-old has accomplished two hat-tricks in his short career. He has won three big contests at Cheltenham course so far.
It shows that the brilliant runner is going to enjoy great time at the track next month. He is likely to draw big bankroll for whatever race he takes part.
Most of the racing experts believe that David Pipe will go for the Gold Cup instead of RSA Chase as the former holds more prestige and significance.
