David Plummer outshines in Men’s 100m backstroke heats: Day three – Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational
David Plummer of Minnetonka Swim outshined in the qualifying rounds of Men’s 100m backstroke on day three of the 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational in Nebraska on Sunday, June 10.
The 26-year-old Plummer faced tough competition from his opponents in the first lap of the event but with his persistent efforts, he managed to outperform them over the finishing end and secured the top qualification spot of the race.
He continued his impeccable swim in the 100m event and reached the finishing wall for first position with the timing of 55.98 seconds.
His effort remained 0.44 seconds faster from Mitchell Friedemann of University of Arizona, who followed Plummer into the playoff as second best swimmer with the timing of 56.42 seconds.
Third finest qualification spot of the race was secured by Matthew Grevers of Tucson Ford Deal, who stayed just 0.08 seconds slower from overpowering his foregoing finisher and posted a time of 56.50 seconds.
Grevers was chased by Masayuki Kishida of Tucson Ford Deal, who was 0.70 seconds apart and secured his way into the final as fourth best finisher with the timing of 57.20 seconds.
Fifth best position of the discipline was obtained by Peter Stacy of University of Arizona, who was only 0.15 seconds apart and posted a time of 57.35 seconds.
The 21-year-old Stacy was followed by Joshua Hafkin of Una RMSC-PV, who remained only 0.18 seconds away from him and tapped the finishing blockade as sixth fastest swimmer with an effort of 57.53 seconds.
Seventh best position of the event was obtained by Cory Chitwood of University of Arizona, who stayed only 0.04 seconds apart and hit the finishing wall with an effort of 57.57 seconds.
Subsequently, last qualifying position of the discipline was secured by Paul Le Missouri State, who was only a touch away from overwhelming his former finisher and clocked a timing of 57.60 seconds for eighth position.
The session came to an end after the conclusion of all listed events in Men and Women’s corner whereas these finalists will race each other in the playoff to secure the crown of the event.
