David Poile does not expect Shane Doan to visit his side; still would welcome him
General Manager of the Nashville Predators, David Poile, has said that he would welcome unrestricted free agent of Phoenix Coyotes, Shane Doan, if he comes to his side, though he does not expect him to visit their set up. It was reported few days back that
Doan visited New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers.
35-year-old Shane Doan has been playing for Phoenix Coyotes since 1997. He became an unrestricted free agent when his contracted ended at the end of 2012 season and he has been on the radar of many teams and he has shown interest in many of them.
Whereas Nashville Predators are desperately looking for an experienced campaigner who can give stability to their line-up after their key defenseman, Ryan Suter decided to move to Minnesota Wild in a 13-year contract, which was worth $98 million.
On Friday, Poile made it clear that he has told Doan’s agent about their interest in him and his agent also knows about their city very well as some of the baseball players he represent reside in the city. 63-year-old Poile said,
“Based on the conversations we’ve had, he is very comfortable with the city and knows a lot about it. He knows some of our guys very well and feels very comfortable about it. His agent knows the city quite well. His agent represents baseball players and
some of his clients live here.”
The Halkirk, Alberta born forward has shown interest in many teams and visited couple of them but he has indicated that he would love to stay in the same city as he has been playing there for 15 years now. But if it does not work out, he has many options.
The 6-foot-2, 228 pounder, has got great stats as he has got experience of more than thousand games and got 318 goals, 470 assists, 788 total points in them. He was originally drafted by Winnipeg Jets in 1995 and played first season with them but he has
been at Coyotes since 1997 so there is a natural attachment of him with the city.
Poile also hopes that he stays in his favourite city but he is ready to catch him if Doan does not re-sign as former Rochester Americans’ player said,
“First and foremost we hope it succeeds in Phoenix and that he re-signs there because that’s where he wants to play. If it doesn’t work for him, we would be very interested, and we’ve made that very clear to him and to his agent.”
