David Price: There is no point me fighting for a world title right now – Boxing News
David Price has become the centre of attention after he grabbed an impressive fourth round TKO victory over Sam Sexton this Saturday. While the Brit has made his nation proud, he still thinks he has a long way to go before fighting for the world title. Price
is currently being considered as the only pugilist in the industry right now who can take on the Klitschko brothers, but he does not want to go for that right now.
In his recent interview, Price shared his future plans. When asked if he is looking forward to take on the Klitschko brothers for the world titles, Price said, “There's no point me fighting for a world title right now because I haven't got the required experience.
Although, the power I carry, anything could happen. It's a matter of striking while the iron is hot. These are my first two major titles, so the foundations are there to build on. Frank Maloney [his promoter] knows what he's doing, he's done it before with
Lennox Lewis. The Klitschkos? That's a bit of a way off. We'll sit down and discuss possible opponents to defend these titles against.”
Price was asked if he is interested in fighting Tyson Fury, a much debated topic, but the British pugilist said that Fury is the one who does not want to fight him. According to Price, Fury gave up his belts in order to avoid fighting him. He added that
he has a deep rooted rivalry with Fury, which is why Fury cannot afford to be beaten by him. Price said that since Fury does not have any titles right now, it is not relevant to fight him just for personal enmity.
Price believes he still needs to learn more about the sport before he can take on the titans, mainly the Klitschko brothers. In his post-bout conference, the now BBBC heavyweight champion said that he is looking forward to his next bout, but he is not eager
for it. Price added that he wants to take the slow and steady road to success instead of rushing up things.
