David Price bags 14 as Tampa Bay Rays crush Toronto Blue Jays 12-0 – MLB Update
The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 12-0 to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the four-game series at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Sunday, August 28.
David Price finally showed his class, after pieces of brilliance throughout the season, when he bagged 14 strike-outs to land just one-shy of most strike-outs by an American League pitcher in a single-game this season. Nonetheless, he succeeded in setting
a single-game record for his franchise.
Price threw seven immaculate innings for just three hits and 14 strike-outs over 111 pitches to record his 12th win of the season. Price exhibited his entire armoury over the stretch to bring his earned-run average down to 3.40. However, he has
11 losses against his name this season and this is one area where he would want to considerably improve in the next campaign.
Brandon Morrow had one of the most forgettable games as he was unglued for five earned-runs in 5.1 innings amid six hits and five errors. Three of these five runs came as homers to the favoured left field and saw his earned-run average plunge to 4.79. Morrow
lost his ninth game of the season with an equal number of wins already against his name for the season.
The Rays elucidated their intentions at the top of the first innings when Desmond Jennings smashed Morrow for the first of his two home-runs before B.J. Upton doubled the lead in the second inning on John Jaso’s RBI.
The Rays got a major boost when Sean Rodriguez and Jennings hammered back-to-back home-runs in the second inning to take the score to 5-0 and impose an additional pressure on the worn-out home side. Rodriguez smashed a two-run homer to allow Jaso to complete
his run before Jennings improved his slugging percentage to .646 after his second home-run of the game.
Jennings managed a career-high four hits in the game along with three runs and as many RBIs. He has impressed in his rookie year and will be a key player for the Rays in their next campaign where they aim to give a tough fight to the New York Yankees and
Boston Red Sox.
