David Price crushes Cleveland Indians’ offence with 5-0 victory for Tampa Bay Rays – MLB Update

David Price overwhelmed the Cleveland Indians’ hitters and got a 5-0 victory for the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg on Friday, May 27.
While Price crushed the Indians’ offence, Casey Kotchman and Sam Fuld charged the Rays’ hitting squad to win an emphatic victory. However, the dominant role was definitely that of Price whom even the Indians’ manager could not help praising. "We couldn't
do anything against him," Indians manager Manny Acta said. "He was overpowering."
The ace pitcher sent home a career-high 12 hitters allowing only four hits in the 6-4 innings he pitched.
Acta continued his praise for Price. "He can pitch any way he wants to do," Acta said. "The last game he pitched against us, he threw 92 percent of pitches fastballs. He dominated us. And today he mixed all pitches in and same result."
Friday’s game kicked off with Price pitching for Tampa Bay. Dominant as Cleveland Indians’ offence has traditionally been, Price was unplayable. Disallowing the Indians’ hitters to go offensively against him, he succeeded in pitching scoreless innings.
Kotchman, on the other hand, hit the first homer of the game. Josh Tomlin was an easy target for Sam Fuld who struck the second homer of the inning to pile up the Rays’ lead to 4-0.
Tomlin gave up five hits in the second inning that not only cost the starting pitcher himself but the Indians as well. The latter half of the game was, beyond any shadow of doubt, a solo show. Price marched on with a brilliant performance to contain the
Cleveland Indians’ offence.
As the velocity of his pace increased, rather than a predictable decrease owing to a considerable majority of the pitches being the fastballs, Price maintained the 4-0 lead successfully. When he finished his magical spell in the seventh inning, his team
lead was intact.
Matt Joyce singled to right on Chad Durbin’s fastball and earned the fifth run of Tampa Bay, strengthening the hold of his team on the game.
Both Joe Peralta and Adam Russell pitched shut-out eighth and ninth innings to pave another 5-0 victory for Tampa Bay as the last time the two teams met on May 12, it was the Rays that won by 7-4.
