David Price helps Tampa Bay Rays beat Boston Red Sox 5-2 – MLB Update
Tampa Bay Rays put up another strong show as they outclassed the Boston Red Sox 5-2 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Tuesday, September 25 in the opening game of their two match series.
Royals pitching rotation played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash. Starting pitcher David Price had one of the best nights of his career as he gave up just two runs in nine sharp innings to claim his 19th win of the season. Striking-out
13 batters, he created all sorts of problems for the Red Sox’s batting line-up.
"We feel good. Nobody has hit the panic button in this locker room," Price said. "We're playing well right now and need to keep it going."
"That's who we've got to be. That's who we are. To play that level of defense and pitch and get some timely hits, that's a formula we've tried in the past that's worked," manager Joe Maddon said in a post game interview. "We're nice and lose, but then there's
a nice business like focus when the game begins and it's a great combination."
Price has produced several match winning performances this season. However, what he did to the Red Sox’ batting line-up on Tuesday evening was something special. Using his fastballs and sliders effectively, Price laid the foundations of an impressive Rays’
victory.
Jeff Keppinger provided Rays with an excellent start as he hit a three run home-run to left in the second inning. Red Sox bounced back strongly in the second and the third to reduce Rays’ lead to 3-2. Jose Molina singled to left in the sixth to restore Rays’
two run lead, which lasted until the end of the contest.
Rays will be very pleased with their effort in a crucial American League East Division encounter and it will be interesting to see if Joe Maddon and company can extend their winning streak to grab one of the two American League Wild Card spots. Red Sox,
on the other hand, will be hoping to turn the tables on their opponents in Game 2 to split the two game series.
