David Price knocks out Matt Skelton in second round – Boxing News
British and Commonwealth champion David Price defended his titles against challenger Matt Skelton. Price was once again impressive, knocking out the challenger in the second round via a chain of body shots and jabs. Skelton was counted out in two minutes
and fifty six seconds of the second round, giving Price yet another impressive win.
“Matt's a rugged, tough, customer. I've got a lot of respect for him and wish him all the best,” said Price to BBC Radio 5 live.
“I had to pull that one out of the bag today, get the job done, and I did.”
Even though Price makes it sound as if the fight demanded more than just his routine shots, it seemed quite obvious that Matt was no match to the Liverpudlian.
Price has now escalated to fifteen wins in his bag with thirteen knockout wins. This victory over Skelton has taken the Briton fighter a step closer to a title fight.
On the other hand, Price’s promoter Frank Maloney revealed that he is talking terms with American veteran Tony Thompson, for a possible spring fight against price next year. According to Maloney, most probably the fight will take place at Liverpool’s Echo
Arena.
“He'll be ready for a world title fight in 2013,” said Maloney when asked when will Price go for a world title fight.
“We'll name an American opponent this week,” Maloney revealed while talking about Price’s next opponent.
Price has claimed 2012 as his year, by defeating some elite fighters in the division such as Audley Harrison. The Briton has become a knockout specialist. He knocked out Harrison in just 82 seconds. It was a major win for Price, who was being considered
a less experienced fighter against Harrison.
“I probably could have asserted my jab a little bit more. But, all in all, I'm happy, I've capped a great year off and next year's going to be massive,” said Price regarding his Friday night fight against Skelton.
Price remains a British fight sensation who is being eyed for a championship fight against the Klitschko brothers. However, the Briton has time and again iterated he will wait until ready to face the Ukrainian titans.
