David Price rattles Olympia Arena by knocking out John McDermott in first round – Boxing news
David Price, the Liverpool proud, performed a miracle by knocking out John McDermott in just the 73rd second of the first round.
Price performed this epic feat on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at his hometown’s Liverpool Olympia Arena.
David Price has come a long way and is considered one of the most talented young heavyweights who have made critics notice them by their winning streaks and emphatic, authoritative knockouts. The bout was held to decide the number one contender to take on
Tyson Fury, the current British and Commonwealth Heavyweight champion, with his title on the line.
Price also known as the Pricey had literally boosted his worth manifold by knocking out Big John, and has done the unthinkable. Price has genuinely toned and improved himself sensibly and has learned from his every competitor the art of knocking out his
opponents. It is important to note that John was not an easy competitor at all.
John McDermott, infamously known as the Big Bad John, has a huge fighting record of 32 brawls. He has won 25 of them and he secured 16 victories by knock out, the most fierce and vicious aspect of the 31-year-old Briton. Everyone was predicting that Pricey
will have to bear the price of taking on such a heavy duty opponent.
The assumptions were mostly put forth by taking into consideration Tyson Fury’s clash with John. McDermott had fought Tyson, the current British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion, twice and in both the bouts Fury really experienced a hard time in pinning
down the Big Bad.
In their first clash, John took Tyson all the way through 10 designated rounds and the win-loss decision rested on the points of the three judges. John lost the first bout but immediately just after 8 months again called on Tyson. In their second skirmish
Tyson improved a bit and was, after much difficulty, able to knock out the big John in the ninth round.
Everybody believed that Price will have no chance in front of such a pugilist who has given tough time even to the current title holder. However, miracles happen and do amaze the world. Pricey despite the critics’ lack of trust in him knocked out John in
such a short time and hence has now become a huge opponent and resistance for Tyson Fury.
Both Price and Fury are bound to take on each other since Price is now the number one contender but concerns have also started to emerge which are spreading the mist of doubt over the probable bout between the two young Britons. Frank Maloney, promoter David
Price, recently commented that corporate stakes are extremely high and are the main reasons which might not let the two men clash inside the squared ring.
Maloney is of the view that since Tyson and Price both are in contract with rival media channels, this is the first main hurdle which since none of the two media channels will allow the other to supersede it. Apart from that, the clash is also between the
promoters regarding the bid issue.
Franks said that amidst these obvious obstacles the skirmish might not happen. If Tyson-David scenario does not happen then Pricey will enter in the US market which is now at the verge of saturation.
At the moment, Price is now enjoying the huge knock out win and is most probably getting ready to take on Tyson Fury or to leave for US to threaten the Klitschkos reign.
