David Price rejoices as Tampa Bay Rays scratch out a series win against Texas Rangers
The Tampa Bay Rays managed to beat the Texas Rangers 5-4 and win the home series on Wednesday, September 7 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.
One man was glad to walk out of the contest without suffering a loss. David Price was happy to manage clean slate tonight as the Rays clawed their way to a win with a walk off homer in the 10th inning.
James Shields had provided the Rays with a win in the series opener against the Texans. Jeff Niemann then faced the full wrath of the Southerners in the second game. Price managed to pick up an undecided game for his efforts, ultimately leading it to the
bullpen experts to handle the situation effectively.
"It's good to join Shields," Price said. "It's been fun. It's been a lot of fun watching him pitch the entire year, and I'm just glad I've had some success."
Unlike last year when Price picked up 19 wins, the hurler is currently nested on 12 wins and 12 losses. His ERA has also increased in comparison. With a 3.40 standing, the ball thrower may have looked smaller than most hurlers in the league but he still
possess the right skill to trouble the best hitters.
Price pitched in six innings, conceding just two runs off eight hits. He struck-out five hitters while walking two.
"He was out there competing. That's what he does," Texas Rangers’ manager Ron Washington said of David Price. "We have to give him credit; he kept his team in the ballgame."
The Rangers are known to smash things up early, but luckily Price was in form to take care of the lot, effectively.
"That's a postseason lineup," Price said. "They've got a good team, one through nine. It's tough."
Price may have a few games left till the end of the season. Management will be hoping he picks up at least 15 wins before the post season session kicks off. It will be interesting to see how Price manages to carry his winning momentum into the next few games
of the season.
