David Price shines as Tampa Bay Rays defeat Chicago White Sox 5-0 – MLB Update
David Price unleashed his unplayable fastballs to help Tampa Bay Rays defeat Chicago White Sox 5-0 at Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg on Monday, April 18.
His eight shut-out innings were forcibly indicative of the strong defence that Tampa Bay has found in this starting pitcher. Price dominated the game with effective fastballs while Felipe Lopez and Ben Zobrist did it with bat.
Price came out to pitch for the Rays on his home ground where he was faced by Juan Pierre. The starting pitcher raged furiously with fastballs as none of the White Sox batters were in position to play him. The first inning for White Sox was scoreless. Tampa
Bay’s batters charged Edwin Jackson, who had come out to pitch for Chicago. Felipe Lopez struck him and singled to centre as Sam Fuld scored. Zobrist was even more vigorous, as he homered to right as Lopez scored.
This gave a 3-0 lead to Tampa Bay and resulted in the White Sox constant attempts to minimise the lead. However, there was no major success as Price was on an unrelenting spree. Successive batters of Chicago failed to live up to their fans expectations.
Price was beyond ordinary with the fastball, as Lopez tried to embolden the team’s position with the bat. Lopez struck Jackson, who had come out to pitch for Chicago and doubled to left where Matt Joyce scored. The score was 4-0 by the fifth inning.
However, Price was visibly pleased and satisfied with his performance. "It was a big game for me. ... The White Sox have had my number ever since I've been in the big leagues," Price said. "A very tough team to pitch against and they've got a lot of right-handed
hitters that put the bat on the ball. It's tough and it's fun."
Chicago Sox manager, Ozzie Guillén, could not resist praising Price. “Price was outstanding. They played defence behind him very well. When you're pitching that way and you make plays behind him, it's hard to beat them."
Matt Thornton replaced Jackson to pitch for Chicago, as Lopez once gain charged and did it with style. He homered to left, scoring the fifth run for Tampa Bay and leaving the White Sox wondering how to cope with the situation. Chicago had their last chance
to do something miraculous in the ninth inning when Joel Peralta, who replaced Price came pitching for Tampa Bay.
Peralta, like his predecessor maintained the Rays’ lead with the ball and reduced the White Sox batters to a scoreless game. Peralta sealed the 5-0 victory for Tampa Bay in the ninth inning with his unhittable fastball.
