David Price shines in Tampa Bay Rays’ 6-0 win over Cleveland Indians – MLB Update
Starting pitcher David Price put up another powerful performance on Thursday, July 19 to help Tampa Bay Rays crush the Cleveland Indians 6-0 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg in the finale of a four match series.
The 2012 All Star pitcher showed just what he is capable as he toyed with the Indians’ offence. In a displayed of complete dominance, Price gave up just two hits with seven strike-outs in seven innings to grab his 13th win of the season.
Rays’ Manager Joe Maddon knows that Price is one of the top pitchers in the American League. Credit should be given to the Skipper for using his pitching rotation extremely effectively. So far, Price is 13-4 with an incredible 2.64 ERA. His strike-out ratio
and ERA for this season is noticeably higher than his career averages.
"That's why I felt that (Wednesday's) win was so important for us, because you really don't want come into the last game of the series trying to tie the series against David Price," Indians’ manager Manny Acta said. "He overpowered us. We just didn't have
good at-bats against him."
Price will be hoping to end the season in the same way he started to have a chance of claiming the American League Most Valuable Players Award. However, his fans will have the greatest respect for him if he can lead the Rays to the post-season.
"It's a very comfortable feeling when you have the lead out there, even if it's one," Price said. "They've done a very good job for me this year of scoring runs early and I appreciate it. Honestly I feel like we've played our best baseball when I've been
on the mound."
Relief pitcher Wade Davis also looked very comfortable on the mound. He pitched two perfect innings while striking-out three to shut-out the Indians. Davis is having one of his career best seasons this year and it will be interesting to see if he can continue
his impressive run over the next couple of months to cement his place on Tampa Bay’s big league roster.
Luke Scott, B.J. Upton, Desmond Jennings, Sean Rodriguez, Jose Molina, Carlos Pena and Jeff Keppinger all made useful contributions with the bat to let the Rays post a respectable total on the board.
