David Price still unsure of his next opponent – Boxing News
David Price feels on the ninth sky after grabbing a fourth round TKO victory over Sam Sexton on Saturday night at the Aintree racecourse. Price, who has remained unbeaten to date, aims to become the world champion, but he is not in a hurry. For now, Price is uncertain regarding his next fight and opponent since most of the fighters of his calibre are already scheduled.
In his post-bout conference, Price revealed that if he is unable to find a suitable opponent in his hometown, he might move to the USA to defend his title. On the other hand, his promoter Frank Maloney, when asked about Price’s next opponent, said, “There are some credible British opponents who would be decent opposition and there has been interest from America for a while. Whatever decision is made will be in David’s best interests and nobody else. People might have dismissed David’s comment when he said he could become world heavyweight champion by his 20th fight. That doesn’t look a bad prediction now. He could most probably earn his chance quickly, but it is about becoming world champion and having a long reign.”
Price thinks it is not the right time for him to rush in things. While most analysts and fans believe that he can be the one to end Vitali Klitschko, Price thinks he still needs time to reach the mark. Yesterday, in an interview, Price claimed that he at least needs 18 months to get his hands on the Klitschko brothers. Price claimed the BBBC British heavyweight title by defeating Sam Sexton and he is now being considered as the one who can make Brits proud. However, humble Price wants to be on Amir Khan’s undercard for now. According to Price, this is the moment to test the water before heading into the lion’s den.
When asked if he is looking forward to end the Klitschko brothers, Price said, “I am not in any rush, but if I keep developing, it could be within 18 months.”
For now, Price wants to stay away from boxing for a while and spend quality time with his family, until he finds his next opponent.
