David Price thrilled to win Players Choice Outstanding American League pitcher award – MLB Update
It was his exceptional and consistent 2.56 ERA which impressed David Price’s peers to vote him for 2012 Major League Baseball season’s Players Choice Outstanding American League pitcher.
“It feels good to have the opposing players, your teammates, opposing coaches, guys you're batting against every five days, to gain the respect of those guys to get their vote for the most valuable pitcher of the year, It's very special to me. It's very special to the Rays,” Price said on a media network after he won the award.
Not only he won the contest but this was the second time in three straight years that Price has won this prestigious award.
“A lot of people have really good years, but Price is the type of pitcher who is going to have good years for many years to come, just because of his work ethic, He has this competitive nature to him. He wants to outwork everybody," fellow starter James Shields.
Price, a four year Major League veteran and an key player of Tampa Bay Rays, also knew during the season that his level of productivity has been increased and the way he was playing in the later stages of the regular season, also helped him win this award.
He won 20 games for the Rays and lost only five while he struck out 205 on 1.10 WHIP.
This was a good performance by any Major League starter but the way Price carried his team forward with an extraordinary thrust certainly proved to be the difference in the end.
His teammates as well his league mates voted him the best and outstanding American League pitcher for all his hard-work and the contribution he made during the season.
Starting his career in the Rays’ franchise in 2008, the three-time Major League All Star and MLB ERA winner, Price is certainly improving with every season.
He has not played for any other team yet except the Rays and this single factor alone tells a very brief account that his current franchise is completely satisfied with his performance and looking forward a long relationship with him.
