David Price to defend his title against Audley Harrison – Boxing News
British and Commonwealth heavyweight titlist David Price is set to face Audley Harrison on October 13 at the Echo Arena in Liverpool.
“Audley was an inspiration to me when I was younger, someone our amateur squad always looked up to,” said Price who is excited to defend his title for the first time.
“He called me before Beijing to offer advice, which I'm grateful for, but he's still getting flattened,” he added.
Price and Harrison have more or less the same qualifications. In 2008, Price claimed an Olympic Bronze medal in Beijing while Harrison won a gold medal 12 years ago in Sydney.
Being the senior athlete, Harrison holds much more experience in the game. On the other hand, Price comes with a streak of 13 undefeated fights since 2009.
David Price won his English heavyweight title earlier this year by defeating John McDermott in just 73 seconds, a victory that has made him a promising athlete ever since. Price then went onto grab the British and Commonwealth title from Sam Sexton earlier
this year in May.
On the other hand, Harrison remained unbeaten in his initial 19 fights. However, the streak was soon broken and Harrison went on a downfall in his career. His most damaging defeat was to Danny Williams in 2005.
For now, Price is excited to defend his title against his senior. It should be noted here that David Price has already indicated towards a possible bout against Dereck Chisora next year. Earlier this week, Price spoke about facing Chisora sometime soon.
However, the Brit wants Chisora to get licensed by the BBBofC before even thinking about fighting him.
Chisora’s license was revoked by the commission on being guilty of misbehaviour against Vitali Klitschko, Wladimir Klitschko and David Haye. Despite being banned, Chisora participated in a grudge match against David Haye. The event was sanctioned by the
Luxembourg Boxing Federation and it became a success, despite several warnings from the BBBofC.
For now, Price wants to fight Audley and then go for Chisora, if the latter gets his license. Price has also indicated a future bout with Wladimir Kitschko if it comes in his way.
