David Price’s pitching helps Tampa Bay Rays defeat Toronto Blue Jays 3-1 – MLB Update
David Price put in a brilliant pitching performance to help the Tampa Bay Rays to a 3-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays at Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg on Thursday, May 5.
Such was his performance that even the rival team could not help complimenting Price’s brilliance. Among others who were all praise for this spell was the team manager of Toronto Blue Jays. "He was strong," Toronto manager John Farrell said. "He kept his
velocity throughout the eight-plus innings he was there. I thought he had a lot of strikes on the inside part of the plate. Caught a number of guys looking. Obviously he's had a lot of success against us, and again that was the case today."
Price pitched into the ninth inning, remaining completely unbeatable. "Really commanding performance," Rays manager Joe Maddon said of Price. "The best game I've seen fastball command out of him."
Thursday’s game began with Price pitching for Tampa Bay. The very first inning that he pitched provided an insight of the unplayable innings that he was to deliver. That is what the beaten rival Blue Jays’ pitcher, Kyle Drabek acknowledged frankly. "He's
a great pitcher," Drabek said of Price. "He did a good job today."
After two scoreless innings, Tampa Bay laid the foundation of a solid inning in the third. Kyle Drabek was effectively put to task by the Ray’s hitters. First, it was John Jaso who doubled to deep right to score the first run. Johnny Damon scored the second
single of the inning to take the lead to 2-0. Matt Joyce was the third hitter to score the third run for the Rays.
Price then built up more pressure on the Blue Jays, whose offence seemed to have lost their touch. He completely rendered Toronto’s hitters incapable of going for any major hit. The Blue Jays were unable to go after Price, as he rendered their offence useless.
Drabek, on the other hand, did not give any other opportunity to Tampa Bay to take their lead further.
David, who pitched eight shut-out innings, allowed only one hit in the 9th inning when Tampa Bay had a 3-0 lead. It was Patterson who grounded out to second to score the one and only run for the Blue Jays. Being absolutely impressive, Price succeeded
in constraining Toronto to one and winning the game by 3-1.
