David Quijano collides with Raul Hidalgo for vacant WBO Latino super flyweight title – Boxing News
David Quijano, the former WBC United States (USNBC) super flyweight champion, will take on a slightly more experienced pugilist Raul Hidalgo, in a 12-round bout which will have the vacant WBO Latino super flyweight title up for grabs.
The bout will be televised live on June 15, 2012 and will headline the pay-per-view jointly organised and promoted by Tuto Zabala Junior of All Star Boxing and Ivan Rivera of Puerto Rico Best Boxing.
The showdown will be co-headlined by the non-title 12-round flyweight bout between Glenn Donaire and Daniel Lozano. The fight card will be broadcasted live from Telemundo channel and the ring for the event will be set up at Civic Center situated in Kissimmee,
Florida, United States.
David, 25, is a bit overshadowed by his opponents experience as he has entered a total 17 bouts. The young Puerto Rican lad has collected nine of his total 14 wins by knocking the opponent out cold.
This will be the second time that David will enter in a title bout. In his first attempt, Quijano collided with Juan Mercedes in a bout with WBO Latino super flyweight title on the line.
Unfortunately, David did not throw large number of jabs as he collected a unanimous decision loss. Since then David has taken on just one man Javier Gallo and returned back on the win track by grabbing an impressive unanimous decision.
His opponent, Raul, is striving hard to make his way up in the bantamweight division. The Mexican proud has been in a total 23 bouts and emerged victorious in 17. Hidalgo has nailed 13 of his opponents by knockout and therefore possesses better knockout
ability than David.
Raul has a bit bad luck as far as the title bouts are concerned. Raul has been in a total two title bouts and unfortunately lost both. This will be the third time that Hidalgo will enter a title bout and most probably will look forward to break the bad spell
as he already possesses an upper hand in the technical and statistical facets.
Hidalgo is also coming from a technical knockout win over novice Arnoldo Orozco. David needs to keep himself away from the Mexican’s powerful jab otherwise he might get knocked out in the initial rounds of the bout.
Raul, on the other hand, just needs to connect a well targeted jab that will end the bout and will help him in grabbing his career’s very first title. The odds are 50-50 on both sides and only the initial rounds will tell as to who has the upper hand.
