David Ragan on verge of losing Roush Fenway Racing ride at Sprint Cup series – NASCAR news
UPS Ford no. 6 driver David Ragan is close to losing his NASCAR Sprint Cup ride at Roush Fenway Racing team.
RFR team boss, Jack Roush revealed that Ragan might depart from the team in next year. He has been racing for RFR since 2007 and has never won a race until this year. Ragan has been driving car no. 6 UPS Ford Fusion as a full time Sprint Cup series driver.
Roush said, “My expectation right now is that I don't see having something for David next year. There are some discussions ongoing but they aren't far enough along that I would put more than a 40 per cent chance of having something for him.”
RFR owner further explained his disappointment with Ragan. He said that he has not been able to recognise his potential for winning the races.
He has let down his whole crew and most importantly the sponsors. The team sponsors have seen utter displeasure with the efforts of Ragan.
Roush added, “Ricky will have a ride with us next year, although I'm not sure what, or in which series and so will Trevor. There are sponsorship discussions ongoing that are certainly benefitted by the competitive effort that both Ricky and Trevor made this
year.”
The car no. 6 Ford driver has ended his 2011 Sprint Cup season in 23rd place with a single victory in the season. He won the Coke Zero 400 held at Daytona International Speedway in early July.
On the other side, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will have a ride at RFR in next year. Stenhouse has claimed 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Series. He has an ongoing contract with RFR that might put him in Sprint Cup series in next year.
Daytona 500 winner, Trevor Bayne is also under contract with RFR and can get a promising ride in next Sprint Cup season.
Unfortunately, Ragan has lost his car’s title sponsor for next year that forced Roush to focus on his team’s young blood.
Ragan has only once been able to finish Sprint Cup season in top-20 positions, during the season when he was in his best form for the cup chase.
